A fabulous zine from a rad, hair queer on Electrolysis, being bearded and sexuality/attraction/orientation. I really enjoyed their journey from guilty and conditioned to energized and owning of their sexuality. As a hairy person myself (who unabashedly admits to shaving facial hair regularly) it feels great to read accounts like these - smart, eloquent and honest.

I thought this would just be a how to book of knitting or shellacking breakfast foods or what have you , but it's actually a smart look at illustration and the history of outsider art. The history part is my favourite (Who would have thought..!) with short descriptions of inspiring artists such as Henry Darger and Maude Lewis, folks that prove art is for everyone. Colour theory, Perspective, photography, and some cute additions like a pattern for a giraffe shaped scissor case and group drawing games. Recommended.

Last night I read the fourth and final Installment if Seattle Based artist and Author Gina Sicilliano's graphic novel "Summertime". The characters in her beautiful sketched pen and ink pieces are given such emotion in their faces; dissapointment, heartache, dissatisfaction; but ocassionally the look of love, and glimpses of excitement. #4 delves into the ending struggle with a friend/lover and addiction. Don't read if you're in the thick of heartache or friend loss, but everyone else please do so! Reccomended.

Well, Well, Well. I've got a dreaded portland summer cold, but i'm happy as an oyster creating a pearl on the kitsap penninsula! (They only do it because they are uncomfortable, to be honest.) My best friend Quinn the Dog is here, my mom is here, i'm lung deep in tinctures and tea. I spent my day reading news and watching ever guilty television. Our chickens have started laying eggs near the fence, and there truly is nothing like a fresh egg!

So, to gush over a zine, it is called Quantify, it is from 2000 and it is written by a critical, snappy queer person of color named Lauren. The critical and snappy are discussed without apology, and I appreciate it - calling out racist graphic design and talking about the "colour of Violence" conference. All pieces, from community part Vs. Whole to identity, to a comic collage on change are well fleshed out. Have no clue where you can get this now. Whoops, good luck ya'll!

Hilarious zine by two folks from bowling green in the late 90's or early 2000. Life updates that really get me laughing - A story about going to a garage sale and buying a very powerful bug zapper, reality shows, term paper titles, a piece on Punk rock in china, and reviews of course. This zine is old and I'll bet you can't get it anywhere. And I think I reviewed it a few years ago.

Andy Friendly - Full Speed Ahead

This zine is mostly about travelling, but also bad ideas executed in houses with a fresh voice. Keeps to the interesting things and ditches the chafe. Includes a eally rad piece on working with bike brakes - he seems to be very bright and have a good way of describing the system to folks. Seems like a fun rowdy kid.

As I sit here in my basement room listening to Portland punk paramours Tiny Knives practice, (well, try to tune out with headphones...It is practice after all!) I reflect on all the great punk music i've been lucky to listen to and experience at house shows across the northwest this last week.Let's reflect. You may be thinking "Hmm... letters with mixtapes? What the punk? Who is this girl taking over the blog?" Yeah, my name is Danielle Warhola and I run another blog, Resume Of Charm where most of this stuff is going to be crossposted.

Sunday, we had a great basement blowout with pasta salad, a huge white strawberry whipped cream cake and an apple pie the size of a pillow. We also had Shark Pact, Members of Hail Seizures' Keyboard and drum outfit play, suitable for dancing or "shaking your butt" and bringing thoughtfully penned songs about harm reduction, service industry work, cities and wilderness. I have no clue if there is a way to obtain their 2010 tape album "Ditches" aside from a show but an address to contact them at is PO Box 913 Olympia, WA 98507

They are on Tour with the Hail Seizures, and the tour dates for that can be found here.

Two days later at the well loved portland house fucketts, was a total gem of a show - Sleep Spindle, Agatha, My Parade and Diver . Let's start there. All people of colour, all political butt shaking for everyone involved. Mathy post rock drumming, power vocals, and pitchy keyboard organ sounds. Check out their Album here.

Agatha. Palatably poppy queer hardcore (that is saying a lot, because I am fucking sick of hardcore until further notice!) with incensed lyrics from a powerful frontperson (plus sick group vocs), dreaming up the drive for actual change in a kierarchal world and assessing identity. Listen to + order their EP at Rumbletowne records. (Rumbletown also has other quality bands Doomhawk, lightnin' round, Shorebirds, and Hooky that remind me of some of the greatest shows I ever experienced living in seattle. Being 19 was really, really exciting.)

They played with Sleep Spindle, Portland all girl goodness. I don't know if they have internet contact.

In the process of writing this post, I plugged the speakers into my bedroom for the first time in a year - going to go through the rumbletowne records backcatalog, turn it up and get nostalgic. Enjoy.

I received Nathan Carter's "Will you marry me?" single page folded treasure at zine symposium 2008, while in the midst of a golden lovespell with a beautiful towheaded colt with a crack in his head, where the happiness could seep out if it all became too much. These adorable letters, wondrous drawings and entries from a life were held very precious to us, and we mimicked the style for our own zine "you are very deer to me". Nathan has lots of beautiful books available on his etsy. Where this story climaxes; Nathan also makes lushly layered piano and banjo music, under the name Purrbot. A Night at Theoria

Well, I was going to stay in tonight. After last night's Tender Loving Empire's birthday blowout/bathroom stall boozing, glitter throwing, mooning the photobooth and butt shaking to the likes of Jared mees + The grown children and Typhoon...i thought i may just need a break.
A friend came by today and mentioned he was playing a show at a gallery and worshop space called Theoria on Killingsworth and interstate. I was intrigued and in the area so after running errands, i decided to swing by. There was a fanciful fort built next to the overpass, and in the gallery itself a slew of curiosities, art, herbs really nice treats and lots of mint kava water from the bar. The first performance was by Robby Kraft, teacher of Sacred Geometry and instrument creator. He presented a wonderful instrument akin to a hand made glass xylophone-theramin-tiny machine. I don't know! It was amazing!
Also, these fellows i know did a hauntingly lovely ambient tape/feedback noise performance. pretty noise show soon!

Hello deers, today has been a trying one.Welcome to my melodramatic post. My teeth of wisdom are trying to scare my milkteeth from their innocent cavern, my fox may have to run in another den and my eyewells are dry from crying, listening to the soft whispering drum and bass song my former love and I shared, and trying to believe magic and whimsy will occur once again. Onto brighter fields, i've been ordering lots of zines and writing letters- it feels nice to actively participate in the widespread writing and zinemaking community. Today I went to the post office and got some space stamps, mercury project and Messenger Mission themed. Watch your mailboxes fine foxes.

First off, I recently found a piece of paper that I wrote down a bunch of Artist's names to look up later. On the scrap I also drew a crying person with a bob haircut and a hand over one eye. Here are images and things from these artists.

I've read probably hundreds of zines on Veganism, from information, meathouse horror fiction, Animal activist histories to cookbooks. This one focuses heavily on music that speaks against the human waste cycle and for animals/veganism. Lyrics, interviews with Anchor and Lawrence Arms, Love letters to spoons, Hummus, and Liquid smoke. the article I found most interesting to read was The Paragon of Animals: reflections on the Human Perception of Intelligence. I failed to appreciate the derogatory usage of the words "cunt" and "retarded" in relation to vegan slogans but otherwise found it a nicely compiled zine.

Ah, what can be said about sugar needle but what a sweet sweet little read it consistently is! Corina explores candy, 32 issues later! As someone who went to the dentist and have about 12 cavities today, I hate to admit i get candy recommendations from this little zine. In this issue there is also an interview with Portland trashy surf band Guantanamo Baywatch. The best thing in this issue is the discovery of "Belly Flops", irregular Jelly beans marketed as such. I also just opened it up again and I had smashed flowers inside from a cute girl i went out with last week. Cool.

Well rounded and written zine out of Lovely San Fransisco opens with an evocative piece on working at a hotel with a jumper suicide (sucide has been a fairly popular zine topic in the last few months, and has been effectively catching my attention) and folks reactions after witnessing it and covering the person up from the common eye. Also of note is an interview with a person who was stabbed, plus photos and writing on some hidden places and things to see in San Fransisco. All the pieces are very well written and varied, so you will probably enjoy at least one piece!

My love and preoccupation with sex has lead to "drama" in my relationships only when I felt obligated to monogamy out of social expectations. Once I embraced my more "poly-amorous" or non-traditional feelings about sex the happier my sex life has become. We are all sexual beings and no two beings express their sexuality exactly the same. It only looks alike because of our socialization. Monogamy is not natural. It is a choice. A choice that makes sense if that's your desire. When its more your family, culture, or community's demand then we got problems. Sex addiction is real but -m ethinks the public protest too loudly 'round the topic when their spouse or sexual partners don't adhere to the popular expectations. The more honest we are about how we like our sex the less time, and money, will be spent in clinics and courtrooms.

I certainly do not view sex addiction as a "disease" that requires 12 steps to cure. Apparently, I fit all the criteria for having a bona fide sex addiction to a T, except for one crucial element: shame. It is this one little horrific emotion that drives millions of so-called sex addicts to spend exponential amounts of money in therapy every year, and just as many to seek support in groups and addiction programs. This shame stems from the fact that many so-called sexual deviants are slapped with the label "sex addict" when there is, in fact, absolutely nothing wrong with liking porn, or anal sex, or spending an evening with a call girl. I don't even think there is anything wrong with using sex to deal with your emotions -- after all, there is some truth to the saying, "let's work it out in bed." Maybe what we need are groups to heal our shame around sex, rather than programs that only serve to reinforce our neuroses.

The longest awaited zine of all time! Benji tells with a bright voice the stories of actions spontaneously taken after seeing the most fucked up bumper sticker of all time, an act of vengance taken by a former partner to another one who was acting like a dishonest dirtbag, and a few pages on personal values and the sword of ideology. It makes me feel good to read a zine by a radical person that is not simply empty rhetoric and statements, telling stories of human emotion, whim, and will to fight and that are delicious to read.

Written by the hoestess with the moestess (I know, I attended dozens of her parties and made a girlfriend at one!) Kelly defines RSVP through the film clueless, tackles her role of hostess-feminist through Virginia Woolf and serves up some helpful hints. Stories about kelly's parties:

fourth of july was the best, with American flag jello champagne cakes and always enough boobs(I mean booze). 20-somethings were smoking pot for the first time, and at her next party i ended up in a kiddie pool in my underwear feeling up a hot redhead that I later dated for months. There was always enough food, dips and olive oil mashed potatoes and wierd kitschy snacks. Her parties nrought together all the social scenes, zine librarians, theater people, regular average gays, punk retirees, internet dates - all drunk, all in harmony.

Once the night before one of her parties a woman from a nearby retirement home took a walk into kelly's back yard, lie in the leaves next to her garbage can and quietly died. Kelly took this with great grace and still hosted a party in yard, with the said partying grandma ghost in our midst.

Mare draws charming, bubbly comics, and is an adult who likes pokemon so these letters to Ash's father, "adressing the reality of a broken family" are reccomended. As a wee pre-teen and early so electronic music fan, it was Aqua and Toy-box at the top of my list. I heard one song from the album searching for info about Aqua, and begged my mom to special order from Denmark via a music store it for me - knowing this music was harmless enough! Although i caught some innuendos and was nervous to have my mother hear all the tracks (lucky for her)- i look back and can't believe how tame and sweet it all was. King of awkward videos, bouncy beats and saccharine vocals...shaped me forever. I still listen to toy box's second album almost weekly, all these theme songs..secret agents, Arabian nights, wizard of oz, any pirates you like. I wish I had seen this band more than any other act. More than Blatz, Crayon, Dolly Parton or Foxdye + the Baron...even more than any of those acts. I envision a stadium full of screaming teenage Danes, Anila and Amir on stage, and me standing there bawling my eyes out. I heard there may be some new tunes out at some point...and hopefully a reunion tour. I will fly to Denmark.

Also, I wanna talk about Aqua a little. I thought Soren Rasted was so cool. I thought he and Lene Should be lovers, and I'm not sure why I thought that. I always used to want eurodance stars to be lovers with each other - an years later, they are! Now I've been in lots of bands and realize it's not all it's cracked up to be! I also had a crush on that musical genius, Soren. When many girls were loving n'sync, backstreet boys and stone cold steve austin, I wanted this guy and this girl:

I did learn recently that Anila changed her name to Aneela. Not a big change, but is it for love of a very special substance that makes toy box sound extra special? Who knows but Aneela.

Last night I went to Evergreen State College lecture hall number 2 to see a new animated feature called Moon Diary by my friend Erin Tanner and animator Curtis Randolph. It was amazing and it made me dream of teeth with crowns and the substance of a headache. Erin has always been very inspiring to me artistically, utilizing rainbows, long legs, innermost hurts and sudden fleeting moments of animal joy. This this work is beautiful beyond belief. The DVD will be released sometime soon, after that it will be avaliable to watch in one year on the internet.

Tour has been really, really lovely! Lots of hot days in the car listening to Josh read Miranda July stories, lots of landscape changes, awesome shows and new and old friends. I'm currently writing from Albuquerque, In our darling friend Billy Jo and Christopher's magically arranged home. We've been awarded a down day or so, as our Santa Fe Show fell through. We play tonight at Winning's coffee, and tomorrow may visit Albuque and busk in Santa fe. Oakland and Davis were amazing, playing beside Oakland's sweetest, Maple Rabbit, KinKin, and Wisdom Tooth. We all swooned pretty hard and later Drove back across the Bay Bridge to see Foxdye rave out in a ballet studio. Also, Josh and I got stuck inside an elevator while Drinking The Club Pina Colada

Aaron Campbell and James Chasse are just two of the recent individuals to have their lives stolen by the Portland Police Bereau. On March 22, they killed again. An emergency response was formed and a group on protesters marched to the East Burnside Precinct. That was only the beginning.

Hello friends, How are you? have you recieved an early spring, if you're in the great pacific northwest? If so, yay!

This has been a very weepy week, but will hopefully make me a more understanding person. I need to remember to speak and try to ACTUALLY FEEL with love, patience, and not to build walls to avoid pain or hard work.

Trials! This week I made lots of small fascinator combs, read some zines, hustled, traveled more than I intended,snuggled and relaxed with olympia and seattle friends, went to some shows and a square dance, ended up on the kitsap peninsula, learned how to apply eye makeup from my mother, thought and wrote extensively about female performance, wondering if this new-feeling, different interest in presentation is a trap, and that i will soon only stare into a mirror working on my face like edie sedgwick, making everyone two hours late for events? I don't think so, and also it coincides with a high point in body confidence, and heavy processing and conversations with other people about their presentation and gender.

I turn 23 this weekend, and I want to feel more excited than I am. From the time that i was maybe 12, I always thought that 23 was going to be a really lovely year. Horoscopes say as much, in my opinion.

They say this is the pisces year for sensual pleasures, music and dancing and making love and eating.

As for music, I listen to Donna Fargo and Lee Hazlewood. Dancing, not so much. Eating, nothing really tastes right. Making love, I'm a touch depressed to even try.

I'm applying seasonally to Dollywood. If i get hired I will take it as a sign from my patron saint dolly parton and move to pigeon forge, tennessee. So please pray for or against in your own preference and let's see what happens.

Coming of age is my jam, thus i read this book. In this summertime novella set in the 1970's, lush in descriptions of summer, sweat, and the thin lace between girlhood and teen leg lengthening run deep. Pretty weak plot, but pretty.

Blue Skies above us

I first read this comic book in a bathroom on division street, while I perched on the closed toilet seat and brushed my teeth before bed. There is a lot of pinball played, and it is filled with a general sense of cozy friend-dom and just hanging out. very cute. I think this is also the person who made the McGriddle Defense zine, the food fiction zine that shocked all who read it at the Portland Zine Symposium (and many others around the world, to be sure.). I'm glad things like that sure do still exist, and thank you. Actually I'm kind of anxious about you clicking that last link, because it froze up my browser, but It's worth it. I had no clue what a mcgriddle was before reading that zine, and It's two pancakes with built-in syrup, mean, cheese, and egg. Can you believe it? Also on the blue skies above us blog, a nice synth + punk laden winter mix called Wintermute. Download that here.

This zine is so charming. It's a quarter size hand-bound mini treasure. I have a few issues from last year, and each one is so different- just the Writer, Miss Delphine following her bliss. May it be a little doses of history, interesting photos, found things, this new issue is sure to be nice and a half!

Valentine's day. I love it. I pretty much tune out everyone that starts saying why it sucks. Greeting cards, capitalism, diamonds, institution of relationships. - blah, blah, blah. If something REALLY BAD happened (I.E. Death, a serious dumping, injury, terrible breakthrough, bad acid trip) I am willing to listen, but let's not trifle with this holiday. It's dedicated to a bunch of wild martyrs one of whom would illegally marry people, it coincides with Lupercalia, is an excuse to make heart shaped objects, eat heart shaped food, make your friends sweet (heart shaped) notes, wear sexy victorian clothes (that may or may not make breasts appear heart shaped), potentially have sex by candle light, and scream "happy valentine's day!" at midnight on 02/13/2010.

As for it being a capitalist holiday, I'm not going to be spending a dime! As for the importance it puts on traditional relationship models...Most years I spend with a group of friends, once a friendly booty call, and one year i had two valentines and OH did we eat a bunch of fancy food and party. This year, i will be spending the actual holiday with my sweetheart, but only because i love valentine's day so much and she's really hot. WIN! The thirteenth I will be crashing bikes into one another during minibike winter, and dancing at a house party.

In finland, It's just a friend's day. This can easily apply to anyone with friends. <3

Winter is fine and fancy, with lots of travel. My toy shop job ended, rubber boots make the rain more bearable, and Portland is brimming with music, various talks, radio shows, and garden variety parties.

A new Resume of charm post, thanks to my charming roomate Wesley, for allowing me to use his computer. December has been off to an amazing start, having awesome dreams, adventures with heart friends, reading awesome books (Women and water, Menustration and Jewish Law. Vintage valentines, The book of The saints) and, believe it or not awesome, working at a rad toystore downtown. (mostly cutting stickers off of strips! fun!) and tonight, making crafts and catching up on blogging. To do so, we'll start with Polka Dot Dot Dot, the magical trio hailing from around the country. Their show at Rontoms in portland was so tight , and i'm dying to see them once more. (not to mention that we all had an awesome sleepover, and decadent breakfast the next day!) Go see them at their midwest and southern dates.

I reccomend listening to "nijewel" on their site, my favourite track of the album, syzygy, might be one of the most swoonworthy songs of all time. (and then the cosmos coalesced, in a starflecked sweater vest. You told me your name, it came from men who made trains, and i was wide eyed. You told me the ground, is where the rail got that sound, and I was undone)

Also, dearest Amina Foxdye just released the third issue of her zine, Sugar and Heartstrings. Totally reccomended! Go ahead and order it from my favourite distro, Ms. Valerie park.

Tomorrow, In art, during portland's first thursday, There is a faux rock poster show at Floating World comics. Many awesome artists are hanging, and of the few i've seen, the posters are swell.

And finally, my band Overcome By The Power Of Love has a few recordings posted, which we will have a huge release party in seattle, and hopefully portland for.

My advice; get a friend to hold, it's sunny here, but certainly chillier.

In an atumnnal time of too much fun and socializing, I am gathering books, much like the squirrels skittering over treestumps and by the wires outside of high windows are gathering nuts and other savory items. I'm not very good at going out in my new city. I'd rather be alone than go to parties, but I think that part of it is being scared of what's new and trying to remember that I'm the same person who left seattle. Well loved and a good person. A cat adopted me. His name is Oliver, and he is orange. He sleeps with me a lot of the time. I went to a party last night, with a fox and a skunk. I was my rabbit self. I need to be overcome by the power of love as soon as possible.

And, a swedish miniseries by Ingmar Bergman about relationships that I am going to watch.Should be theraputic. I think I may feel veuyeristic after this.

Hello, Hello Resume of charmers.

I'm in the fabulous multnomah county library Belmont branch, doing a portland favourite activity - looking for work.

This week i have done many things, and had a couple minor breakdowns. Luckily, i am in wonderful health and can remember that I am not alone, and not an Island. Neither are you. Things will certainly even out.

Today I made tea with Mullien, Nettle, and Chickory root. Good for tiny congestions!

A long walk in the sun that has recently come out, sleeping in my new attic wonderplace, reading "we're going to see the beatles!" (An oral history of Beatlemania as told by the fans who were there) and issues of the wonderful art magazing Mome.

This weekend

1. Long, langourous times staring into lawns still green resisting winter

2. Seeing "Jizz Wizard", an amazing electrofunk band in a flooding basement

3. Went to a Benefit Show for the Elliot Free state, Where the band Slow Teeth played. Super show, and for more information about the Elliot Free state check out http://forestdefensenow.org/

4. Went to an ambient noise party at The Watershed, embroidered, got stressed, remembered the healing nature of forests and being alone.

5. Spent three hours making breakfast, played pinball, drank raw goat milk, Talked in bed with a friend for hours.

I know i've been blogging more, it's just that I can't put mp3 and video into a zine. And i would never put things this trivial on paper. It is fun, though.

And really, this is easier to communicate the trivialities of my tastes.

There is a MARMOSET loose in the University district (not a joke, his name is Rafiki and he weighs around a pound. He was wearing a baby blue diaper when we went AWOL.)
There a signs in plastic all around, so it's really not a joke.
I did find an animal rights pamphlet in my stockpile of zines and ALF propaganda a day or so after the signs appeared, with a marmoset screaming on the front. It's a totally horrifying image, but it allows me to fully know what i should be looking for.
Very tiny.

Hello kittens. Happy chilly day, pacific north westerners! Today I am going to discuss some more outdated media. A film, a zine, and a band.

First, the film. I stumbled upon a 1970 movie called Brewster Mccloud a few years ago, when all the video rental stores were selling video tapes for like 25 cents to make room for the digital video disc medium. With a taste for the supersaturated and tacky, it seemed like a good pick by the cover and description. The film is about a young, reclusive creature named Brewster who resides in a fallout shelter in the astrodome in Huston, Texas. He is building a pair of wings and training his body in an attempt to eventually fly away. This may sound like an iccarus situation, but it's way more neccesary than all of that. His companion Louise cares for him, when he ventures to the outside world where people are oftentimes harsh, racist, and violent. He and Louise are birds trapped in human bodies, essentially. There are wierd car chases, a murder subplot, and a romantic interest (Shelly Duval, who i really love. This was actually her first time in a film.) who leads directly to Brewster's downfall. The movie deals with Human restraints and the things done in an attempt to feel as though we are free. The entire film is cut with another bird trapped in a human body, a professor relating bird life to the human experience - I think this is the best part about it. Out of print, but really worth seeing.

ZINE REVIEW Today I skimmed a zine called "a punk kid walks into a bar." from 1999 or so. Because you'll probably will never encounter it, here are the highlights.

"The thing about Godzilla. Does he hate people? In all the Godzilla movies I've seen, it just seems like he stumbles into the cities by accident, and then simply reacts when people start shooting at him. Poor Guy"

"when looking at someone far away with binoculars and they yawn, it is hard to tell if they are yawning or just very calming and controlledly screaming."

"all of my dreams involve combing my hair" and, aside from that I'm over it.

and finally, this is the band I have been waiting for for quite a while to come into my existence. They were truly ahead of their curve in 1981. I love the whine and candidness of these like neo-beatniks.

When I was a young kitten, I HATED the bee gees. My mom was always singing along and swooning to these siblings on the radio- and for some reason this upset me. I think as a pup I was unprepared for falsettos, or was not ready for making-love slow ballads. (definitely not!) But all things come full circle, and now i really like the bee gees. The soft piano lines, soft syth, those beautiful harmonies, lines like "I can still feel the glow, let it be let it grow"

Of the same vein, my love is deep for Randy VanWarmer. Thesemi-star is full of awesome 70's cheese and synth. Perhaps many of his jams are Not so much making love, as holding hands and starting at sunsets and camping. He was the dreamy bespectacled underdog on the American charts, with one gold ol' hit that my patron saint Dolly Parton covered.

I hope you're feeling excited about the seasons changing. While I am not, Honestly, I hope you are! The Resume Of Charm brand of behaviors, products, lovemaking, and hijinx will be relocating in the next weeks to Portland, Oregon. This means nothing, really, except the IP I blog from will be different and I'll be giving my zines to people that probably don't already have them. Oh, And I'll make more money with jewelry because people dress better in portland. If you have a catch-all name for your personal industry and stuff, try calling yourself that. It's kind of feels important, like you're more than one kitten.

Check out this flickr group "castles of europe". To jump for joy for! The other night, Craven Rock, of the EAVES OF ASS fame (Get it at Ms. Valerie park) and I read through quite a few zines.

The highlight was the zine "alco-beat".

In it, there is a list of papers you could write in college including

The two authors talk about amusement parks, being drunk rock writers, television, Sex Education films from the 70s and punk rock in China. Seriously, this zine is tops.

Hey Kittens, I'm updating from the fine Multnomah county library. Ooooh their dreamy hand-picked zine collection!

Last night I went to Dekum Manor and saw two of the finest portland bands - Tiny Knives and Here comes a big black cloud. Dance party! I took a walk with two puppy friends Teauge and Bri, sang to friends, ate birthday cake, had a sleepover, and this morning drank tea that tasted like spring flowers and slightly psychedelic wallpaper. Played Ukelele-saw romance jams outside of the waypost. Life is good. Things with the living space I was thinking of are now no longer a topic, but I realize this is a very good thing - it will bring better things in the spring! Now I am searching for a temporary nest. It will work out, I know!

The zine symposium weekend is my favorite working holiday. Sell zines, Trade zines, Buy zines, make friends, See old friends, cuddle with other cute zine-makers behind your table, drool over nice covers, make a lot of noise if you're from seattle, drink a lot of beer and go to lots of parties. That shit is dyoniesian! I always have fun, but this year was made great by the people who attended. Friday was a sort of set-up and make tea-party pleasantries with people. After that, my friend Jadon and I went and saw Tiny Knives, Fleabag, and Scumgrief at The Camel House. We later went to my friend's "I'm leaving portland!" party and danced for a long time. And got lost for an hour or two walking back. Oops! Saturday I mostly sat around my table and felt at home, because my roomates Kinoko and Adam were tabling right next to me. My friend Amina sat with us for a large part of the day. Later, my new friend Matt invited friends over for a party, where I napped with my roomate in a VERY comfortable bed. I then walked to another dear friend's house - Rihanna and Josh, where Amina and Jadon were, and went to sleep. Shh!
Sunday, i got drunk and traded all my zines for other zines. SO MANY GOOD ZINES!

Hello, Kittens! I am not usually thrilled by new earthly objects, but tomorrow I will be obtaining a multi-octave singing saw (thanks mom and dad!) and a schoenhut toy piano from the 1070s (Thanks, craigslist!). The opportunities for music making these two will offer is kind of a joy. I am a saw player, and already have two really nice hardware saws that work well, but oh the range! There are a bunch of bands and electronic artists that I really like that utilize toy pianos...I am VERY attracted to the sounds they create. <3! style="text-align: center;">REVIEW TIME
Zines I have enjoyed as of recent - Most new, some Ancient. Stay tuned for more. I am preening through hundreds of zines from the house I live in - A giant collection grew and was abandoned here the year before I moved in...Oh, to be the proud parent of 1,000 issues of maximum rock and roll and french anarcho leaflets about why cows should'nt be exposed to television! Naw, Actually tons of the zines are quality. So, the few hundred that made it through the initial cut, I will be reading.

And, There was the zine symposium. The next post (perhaps tomorrow) will have more reviews, photos from the week, and some excerpts. I read in a zine once that the best way to review is to let the writing speak for itself.

I found this zine in the Outhaus closet. I'm in love with this zine. The writer, Luran Truckface, worked for an unnamed health food chain. Luran mostly writes about things in relation to work in ways that make me laugh and shudder. college, Crazy roomates, co-workers, touring, parties, iguanas, people of the past, body traumas (In various forms) and serious snark.

"I am a really bad person. Sometimes I get angry when Lucas looks at me. It makes me hate him. He looks at me and I see he's in love and I hate him for liking me as a woman, I become disguested with his heterosexuality, his enjoyment of my Body. Sometimes this is the only zine I care about. The layout and artwork selected are always STUNNING. And the stories and thoughts shared are always very candid - sometimes with stress, others with wonder. There is often an easy-to-relate to stream of conciousness , #7 rang out on love of music, beauty standards, Mental health month, confidence, television, cellular telephones, routine, and more. ANY of her zines are super good, though.

I need to say Zine crush five times fast. Peep has a pretty expansive catalog - fifteen or sixteen issues at least. I traded Delphine for two of them, one under recommendation and one by closing my eyes and capturing one off the table. I have #8 and #15. Each issue is but a few pages long, but OH! the charm in the brevity and lightheartedness. Wonderful clip art and images, collages of items often overlooked.

Useful things abound! French phrases, poems, centerfolds, recipes, histories of things in a quarter page or less.

Mayzie is a total dreamcloud of a zine writer. She writes zine about EVERYTHING. They are precious, unabashedly feminine, and above all - really really fun to read and look at. She talks about fashion, Kanye west, sewing shit, whatever. Rad backgrounds and collages.

Her latest zine "Liberal Myth" takes on a topic totally unique to the zine world, I believe - Pole dancing for confidence, excersize, and sport. She discusses the relationship with her body as it has changed over years. Highly reccomended!

With an address provided, I will mail out as many post cards as are requested. A list of lovely things will be sent - and I will hope for one in return! The postcard lists will be compiled for a portion of the issue. It makes me excited just thinking about what could be on those cards.

Resume of charm #12 will be the issue of all things truly beautiful, explosive, natural and kind. I have always been obsessed with lists. (Thus my attraction to the zine "list" by Ramsey Everydaypants) Lists have generally been latest interests, and nice things in general, emotions and growing things. Growing like plants and inside heads. I recently re-printed copies of a zine I did when thirteen - "bright eyes." Inside it were:

coming on a ten year anniversary, i just giggle and smile. Things are just as simple, now.
