The band I most regret missing live

As a wee pre-teen and early so electronic music fan, it was Aqua and Toy-box at the top of my list. I heard one song from the album searching for info about Aqua, and begged my mom to special order from Denmark via a music store it for me - knowing this music was harmless enough! Although i caught some innuendos and was nervous to have my mother hear all the tracks (lucky for her)- i look back and can't believe how tame and sweet it all was. King of awkward videos, bouncy beats and saccharine vocals...shaped me forever. I still listen to toy box's second album almost weekly, all these theme songs..secret agents, Arabian nights, wizard of oz, any pirates you like. I wish I had seen this band more than any other act. More than Blatz, Crayon, Dolly Parton or Foxdye + the Baron...even more than any of those acts. I envision a stadium full of screaming teenage Danes, Anila and Amir on stage, and me standing there bawling my eyes out. I heard there may be some new tunes out at some point...and hopefully a reunion tour. I will fly to Denmark.

Also, I wanna talk about Aqua a little. I thought Soren Rasted was so cool. I thought he and Lene Should be lovers, and I'm not sure why I thought that. I always used to want eurodance stars to be lovers with each other - an years later, they are! Now I've been in lots of bands and realize it's not all it's cracked up to be! I also had a crush on that musical genius, Soren. When many girls were loving n'sync, backstreet boys and stone cold steve austin, I wanted this guy and this girl:

I did learn recently that Anila changed her name to Aneela. Not a big change, but is it for love of a very special substance that makes toy box sound extra special? Who knows but Aneela.

Go chica, Get Banana! Hey Monkey, get funky.
Here's my Bubblegum/Eurodance Youtube Playlist - Enjoy all the Toy-box videos and other fine European delights.

Europopped Blog

I'm not a big fan of Christmas - but here's a snarky little Aqua song, about plastic snow twinkle lights and that Wham! song that damaged your head. I love the part where Rene Dif as Santa Claus is being consoled by his bandmates.

Your past life diagnosis:
I don't know how you feel about it, but you were female in your last earthly incarnation. You were born somewhere in the territory of modern North Australia around the year 1675. Your profession was that of a leader, major or captain.
Your brief psychological profile in your past life:
Timid, constrained, quiet person. You had creative talents, which waited until this life to be liberated. Sometimes your environment considered you strange.
The lesson that your last past life brought to your present incarnation:
Your main lesson is to develop magnanimity and a feeling of brotherhood. Try to become less adhered to material property and learn to take only as much, as you can give back.
Do you remember now?

Director Eli roth is a piece of trash

I'm so angered by our society and a capitalist media, force feeding by way of money, into homes and schools and streets we walk in. a constant stream of creative violence, slut shaming, murder of women. All in ways that flip the human brain's pleasure sensors.

Anyone who believes that horror, slasher, murder films, violent video games do no affect violence levels is kidding themselves.
45 murders in a violent nation, every single day. Dozens of women dead, attacked.
The normalization of violence toward women is really fucking pissing me off, It's making me hurt, and i want it to fucking stop.
I can suppress my hurt and fear, but it won't stop until it's out of our fucking face.

Corporate media will be the end of me.

I hope horror movies go away forever

love probingly seek humbly what you hope for and may not deserve

like a kitten attacks the bowl of cream i lap up desirable images from my pen
fingertip presents jewels on my tounge
i could envision your pants cradled by our shirts sprawled across my shirt on the floor
and our socks neatly stashed away

My hearts flattered on the wall of my outsides creeping in
maybe like it's summer time
Fashionably late

Things I am thankful for

My sister
The Desert
All of my close friends
Portland Oregon
Olympia Washington
The rain, although relentless
Sexual health
Showers, Indoor and Outdoor
Thick handwriting
That song "jilted"
Tomato starts
Salad
Fiber
Fermentation
I'm getting older it's okay
what do you want to do before you die?
The bushes hang low and heavy and red
Bees
My partner
Feathers littering the ground
Porches
Hearing skills

Last night I went to Evergreen State College lecture hall number 2 to see a new animated feature called Moon Diary by my friend Erin Tanner and animator Curtis Randolph. It was amazing and it made me dream of teeth with crowns and the substance of a headache. Erin has always been very inspiring to me artistically, utilizing rainbows, long legs, innermost hurts and sudden fleeting moments of animal joy. This this work is beautiful beyond belief. The DVD will be released sometime soon, after that it will be avaliable to watch in one year on the internet.

Rain times? Why?

Well, back from tour! Had a warm portland welcome in the wet, wet streets. I'm writing to you from fuel cafe, after an unsucessful try at getting some bike repairs done. Bike Farm is closed, and Community Cycling Center on Alberta proved to be not awesome at all. Oh well there's always tomorrow! Today is for tea and daydreaming in the rain.

Tour!

Tour has been really, really lovely! Lots of hot days in the car listening to Josh read Miranda July stories, lots of landscape changes, awesome shows and new and old friends. I'm currently writing from Albuquerque, In our darling friend Billy Jo and Christopher's magically arranged home. We've been awarded a down day or so, as our Santa Fe Show fell through. We play tonight at Winning's coffee, and tomorrow may visit Albuque and busk in Santa fe. Oakland and Davis were amazing, playing beside Oakland's sweetest, Maple Rabbit, KinKin, and Wisdom Tooth. We all swooned pretty hard and later Drove back across the Bay Bridge to see Foxdye rave out in a ballet studio. Also, Josh and I got stuck inside an elevator with The Club Pina Colada

Letters + Twig Palace tour!

Hey delicate nettles,
I've been with limited internet and with heavy shoulders of work to be done, sun to be snagged as soon as it can be, hearing love trampling my ears and ending up in the distant parts of my winterchasing flying squirrel injecting dream self, playing with trinkets. Two nights ago I compounded earthly things into a suitcase or two to head out for adventures with bands and friends around the country. I'll be playing music and touring with with the lovechild projects of Colleen Johnson (Twig Palace) and Joshua James Amberson (Letters), Amina Kirby (DJ Foxdye). It's such an honor to play with all of them on this tour. We've not had too long to work together, but it's starting to come together, bells and buckets in my basement. I'll be playing with my other blessed trio,

Call to portlanders! Meeting on Police brutality TONIGHT

No More Police Brutality

Aaron Campbell and James Chasse are just two of the recent individuals to have their lives stolen by the Portland Police Bereau. On March 22, they killed again. An emergency response was formed and a group on protesters marched to the East Burnside Precinct. That was only the beginning.

Police Violence has been running rampant on our communities for too long. Enough is enough! Next steps will be discussed at tonight's meeting. See you there and spread the word!

Tuesday, March 23rd

The hours pass so slowly, since they've thrown away the key

When I was a kid, my dad was always rambling about how good Bananarama was. I was always like "yeah, it's cool." but now, I understand. Pretty genius pop songwriting. And really goofy babes.

The judge and the jury, they all the put the blame on me.
Only you can set me free, because i'm guilty, guilty as a girl can be
I stand accused of love in the first degree

Do you love waking up next to me as much as i love waking up next to you?

Hello friends, How are you? have you recieved an early spring, if you're in the great pacific northwest? If so, yay!
This has been a very weepy week, but will hopefully make me a more understanding person. I need to remember to speak and try to ACTUALLY FEEL with love, patience, and not to build walls to avoid pain or hard work.
Trials! This week I made lots of small fascinator combs, read some zines, hustled, traveled more than I intended, snuggled and relaxed with olympia and seattle friends, went to some shows and a square dance, ended up on the kitsap peninsula, learned how to apply eye makeup from my mother, thought and wrote extensively about female performance, wondering if this new-feeling, different interest in presentation is a trap, and that i will soon only stare into a mirror working on my face like edie sedgwick, making everyone two hours late for events? I don't think so, and also it coincides with a high point in body confidence, and heavy processing and conversations with other people about their presentation and gender.

I turn 23 this weekend, and I want to feel more excited than I am. From the time that i was maybe 12, I always thought that 23 was going to be a really lovely year. Horoscopes say as much, in my opinion.

They say this is the pisces year for sensual pleasures, music and dancing and making love and eating.
As for music, I listen to Donna Fargo and Lee Hazlewood. Dancing, not so much. Eating, nothing really tastes right. Making love, I'm a touch depressed to even try.

I'm applying seasonally to Dollywood. If i get hired I will take it as a sign from my patron saint dolly parton and move to pigeon forge, tennessee. So please pray for or against in your own preference and let's see what happens.

Birthday Party at my house next week

Girls in Peril: A Novella (Tin House New Voice) Girls in Peril: A Novella by Karen Lee Boren

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Coming of age is my jam, thus i read this book. In this summertime novella set in the 1970's, lush in descriptions of summer, sweat, and the thin lace between girlhood and teen leg lengthening run deep. Pretty weak plot, but pretty.

Portland zines

I first read this comic book in a bathroom on division street, while I perched on the closed toilet seat and brushed my teeth before bed. There is a lot of pinball played, and it is filled with a general sense of cozy friend-dom and just hanging out. very cute. I think this is also the person who made the McGriddle Defense zine, the food fiction zine that shocked all who read it at the Portland Zine Symposium (and many others around the world, to be sure.). I'm glad things like that sure do still exist, and thank you. Actually I'm kind of anxious about you clicking that last link, because it froze up my browser, but It's worth it. I had no clue what a mcgriddle was before reading that zine, and It's two pancakes with built-in syrup, mean, cheese, and egg. Can you believe it? Also on the blue skies above us blog, a nice synth + punk laden winter mix called Wintermute. Download that here.

This zine is so charming. It's a quarter size hand-bound mini treasure. I have a few issues from last year, and each one is so different- just the Writer, Miss Delphine following her bliss. May it be a little doses of history, interesting photos, found things, this new issue is sure to be nice and a half!

Valentine's day. I love it. I pretty much tune out everyone that starts saying why it sucks. Greeting cards, capitalism, diamonds, institution of relationships. - blah, blah, blah. If something REALLY BAD happened (I.E. Death, a serious dumping, injury, terrible breakthrough, bad acid trip) I am willing to listen, but let's not trifle with this holiday. It's dedicated to a bunch of wild martyrs one of whom would illegally marry people, it coincides with Lupercalia, is an excuse to make heart shaped objects, eat heart shaped food, make your friends sweet (heart shaped) notes, wear sexy victorian clothes (that may or may not make breasts appear heart shaped), potentially have sex by candle light, and scream "happy valentine's day!" at midnight on 02/13/2010.

As for it being a capitalist holiday, I'm not going to be spending a dime! As for the importance it puts on traditional relationship models...Most years I spend with a group of friends, once a friendly booty call, and one year i had two valentines and OH did we eat a bunch of fancy food and party. This year, i will be spending the actual holiday with my sweetheart, but only because i love valentine's day so much and she's really hot. WIN! The thirteenth I will be crashing bikes into one another during minibike winter, and dancing at a house party.

In finland, It's just a friend's day. This can easily apply to anyone with friends. <3

Our Lady Of The Artichokes

A few lines from my new favourite book, By Katherine Vaz,

Henry was half covered with a sheet, and he was near crying. He said there are two types of people these days, ones who've been spit out the other side of violence and understand what it means to say "never let me go" and those who never think about the need to look for grace.

This is why we close our eyes while kissing: we instantly need to brand certain close ups onto the underside of our eyelids. We need certain portraits to burn and flash whenever we blink when we're alone.

-----------

I'd slept in this room with tonio our first night together, never undressing. It was more of a clutching, my astonished inspection of how thin he was, and his embrace of me at first was so ferocious I seemed to be underwater and breaething through a straw that pierced the surface. There was a package of condoms near expiration left over from a love affair i broke into fragments over, but when I mentioned them, Tonio said, I don't like you like that but, if you would not mind holding me. The war in Angola had left him an orphan adrift, one of the earth's totally fucked. I quit my usual anxious wondering what was supposed to happen next, until i had a sense of being pressed whole to the inside of him, and I let that print of myself there for him to carry around , and his physical weight sank inside my ride, where it expanded so he'd stay trapped in the barred cage of my chest.

This book offers one thousand ways to say please don't go. <3

Happy mew year

Winter is fine and fancy, with lots of travel. My toy shop job ended, rubber boots make the rain more bearable, and Portland is brimming with music, various talks, radio shows, and garden variety parties.

Tonight I am going to see Typhoon and Y La Bamba at Backspace, 115 NW 5th St., Portland, Oregon 97209.
it should be awesome. It sure is fun to explore new music!
